Blaster Master Zero è un gioco di azione ed esplorazione con grafica nello stile 8 bit a visuale laterale e dall'alto. Partendo dal classico "Blaster Master" del 1988 di Sunsoft come base, Blaster Master Zero aggiunge tante novità, come nuove aree e nuovi boss, nuovi elementi di gioco come armi secondarie extra, giocabilità migliorata, uno scenario più solido, meccaniche di esplorazione affinate ed espanse e molto altro ancora. ・Nelle mappe a visuale laterale prendi il comando del SOPHIA III ed esplori l'area circostante cercando il dungeon dove si nasconde il boss dell'area. ・Una volta trovato l'ingresso del dungeon, esci dal SOPHIA III e fatti strada all'interno nei panni dell'eroico Jason, per affrontare i mutanti in modalità a visuale dall'alto. ・Sconfiggi i boss intermedi e i boss di fine area per ottenere nuovi oggetti, armi secondarie, potenziamenti a SOPHIA III e all'equipaggiamento di Jason e nuove abilità, poi avanza all'area successiva. ・Il Giocatore 2 può dare supporto al Giocatore 1 mentre affrontano il gioco in modalità coop multigiocatore.
